Norsk Jumper | Tails 1979
We spent a year working in Norway. Trekking and traipsing from iced fjord to high fjell. Once we found Astrid and her family we knew we our journey was done. She has been working with Norwegian wool all her life, taking on her grandfather’s factory in the mountains. His knitted portrait acts as a reminder of the values of Norwegian craft manufacturers.
The place of origin of the Tails Norsk jumper must be Norway’s largest inland island. Here the mountains drop into the sea. The sheep graze in the folds of the fjell. Their wool is thick and warm. The jumper is a classic shape with a broad crew neck and hemming that I would describe as a comfort. The arms are long and the shoulders broad. The jumper is cream in colour and the old houndstooth pattern is reinterpreted in a pale grey with a burgundy red.
